Commissioner Michael Johnson

A Sacramento area native, Commissioner Johnson attended Luther Burbank High School and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Sacramento City College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration/Government from California State University, Sacramento (CSUS).  He is certified an Emergency Medical Technician and Hazardous Materials Specialist and was employed for 33 years by the City of Sacramento Fire Department where he retired at the rank of Captain.

Commissioner Johnson has served on several local​ boards and commissions, including the Sacramento Central Labor Council, Sacramento Area Fire Fighters Board, Sacramento Democratic Central Committee, Professional Firefighter Safety Committee, Board of California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee, and the CSUS Committee of Theatre and Dance.

He is also a former board member of the Hook and Ladder Association, Firefighter 10-7 Association, and the Coalition of Organized Labor.  He is an active member of the Harry S. Truman Club and is an avid golfer.

Commissioner Johnson is a Sacramento County District 1 appointee to the Sacramento County Civil Service Commission, taking over the unexpired term of Commissioner Cedric Porter on June 30, 2004.  He was most recently reappointed June 17, 2019 and his current term expires June 30, 2024​.​
